Sam Brearley our eldest veteran passed away recently with his funeral taking place on Wednesday 15th August at Burnley Crematorium. Sam aged 99 had been ill for the last few weeks and passed away in Blackburn Royal Hospital. Kevin the British Legion Standard representative attended the service and our thanks go to him.
Our deepest sympathy go to Sam's relatives. An article appeared in both local papers the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and the Clitheroe Advertiser showing Sam with his medals and giving a good write up on the old soldier. Prior to WW2 Sam was a member of RADA and when a prisoner of war in Germany having been captured in Greece he put these talents to good use by putting on plays and concerts and involving hundreds of men in these activities.
